Summer last year BenJets also worked out like a demon on his game, and
was supposedly improved, and I think may have gotten into the starting
lineup for the beginning of the season. Then it turned out the hard
work really hadn't paid off as expected, and BenJets had to come off
the bench.

If Gordon has truly become a standout defender, then this is going to
be an insanely great defensive team. If it isn't already.

You're right to note we heard great things about Ben's work last year.
I'd say that Skiles and Pax are better about pre-season B.S. than most
teams in the league (see Chandler, Tyson and Curry, Eddy - they never
said anything about those two that didn't come to pass during the
season). But everyone does it. There was a pretty awesome story a
couple days ago where Flip Saunders gushed about decrepit creep Dale
Davis's training camp performance with terms like "freak of nature".
