The following players must be kept. The dodgers need 2 great pitchers
to go to the WS. Try Marlon Anderson at 2nd but look for something in case he doesn't work out. Kent is great but he is old. I wish they had a better defensive SS. C Russell Martin 3B Wilson Betemit LF Andre Ethier RF J.D. Drew 1B Julio Lugo 1B Nomar Garciaparra SP Chad Billingsley CL Takashi Saito RP Jonathan Broxton |

Julio Lugo???? Seriously you want Lugo at first? Now I figure Lugo to be an ok defensive replacement but his offensive his horrible. We don't need him at first and I am not convinced we need him at all. |

He's a much better hitter than he showed with the Dodgers - small sample size, you know. And Anderson is a much worse player normally than he showed in September - he's never shown that much power before, and given his age I'd have to say it was a sample size issue - he got hot, but over the course of a full season he'd be an okay at best hitting second baseman who was below average defensively. Lugo won't be back btw, since he'll get a big offer to play shortstop for some team - I'm guessing the Red Sox. Kent will be back - he signed that extension. What I'm hoping is that Loney will have the first base job to lose, and if he slumps then Kent can be moved there. I'm not optimistic on that, though. I wouldn't mind Maddux re-signed if the price were right, though I'd rather they signed a premium starter, plus a long man/6th starter, and let Billingsley and Kuo go at it in the rotation. (Figure Zito and Lowe would be the surest top of the rotation in terms of inning eating in the majors - Penny, Billingsley and Kuo would have upside but risks). |

Maddux has apparently said he'd like to be back, and Coletti has apparently said that he'd like to sign another good starter over and above retaining Maddux, so if they can get on the same page it looks as though Maddux may be back. Lofton would also like to return, as would Gagne and Saito, but Saito wants a better financial deal, not sure what the amount he's looking for is though. |

Spring Training Andy LaRoche era can start in March 2007, if he wants it. I'd be curious to see if Houlton or Miller are ready to make a dent. Hamulack and Stultz same sitch. I really hope that Delwyn Young is ready to make the move as well. He, Kemp, and Ethier make a mighty young outfield, but unlike 2004 to '05, it seems that paring away the roster would be more than a salary dump. Free Agency/Trade If there's a good back-up catcher available, we should snap him up. Same with a starting pitcher. Dessens makes for a good spot starter in case any of the five falter, but if Maddux doesn't return or one of the other guys falters, I doubt we can rely on Elmer to carry a full season. A third baseman, in case LaRoche still isn't ready. |

I'd like to see Loney take over full time at 1st base. That means Nomar doesn't fit. You can't pay 7 or 8 million to a utility infielder. Thanks for the memories. Lugo needs to get the hell out. Let him go someplace where he can play SS full time. Bouncing around the infield doesn't suit him obviously. Before the NLDS I would have said Lofton should come back another year but after going 1 for 12 or whatever it was with all that playing time he had, I'm not so sure anymore. Maddox is too old. His velocity is only going to continue to drop. He cant hit is spots consistently anymore and he doesn't get the gift calls from umps like he did when he was with the Braves. He had a nice second half with the Dodgers but I wouldn't expect that to be the norm for Maddog next year. If there is any way Ned can trade that fat bastard Penny and get something in return, please do so. The Skankees need some pitching. Call Cashman. Gagne is done, let him leave and give Saito a raise. |

Saito won't be a free agent for 5 years unless he is released. When Gagne was signed I was about the only one who said it was a dumb deal. Uness he takes a really cheap contract with less than great incentive clauses keeping him would again be dumb. He is now a very high risk player. |

I don't if I want Lofton back. if I remember correctly he was signed because
of his playoff experience. but I didn't see any this year, I'm not sure if I'd want a guy who went 1-12 in 3 games for next year's post season. I hope Kemp can get some more discipline at the plate and take over in center next year. "gnork" <gnork44@earthlink.net> wrote in message news:ZtCWg.7299$Y24.5742@newsread4.news.pas.earthl ink.net...
