I for one, would like to see the Tigers resign Casey for the next couple
of years. I think his clutch hitting in the playoffs are more like his real skills than what he showed in the regular season. If we let him get away we will be without a left handed bat again. Anyone know if there are plans to resign him? |

IMO, a bigger bat is needed at that position.

I am in Ohio & in his earlier years at Cincy he was a great hitter who'd career just got lost in the shuffle of other players coming in. The guys is a diehard baseball player with great leadership who can still hit. I'd sign him to like a 2-3 yr deal. I think he can contribute still plus he's a lefty who can swing a big bat for any game with no worries. |

They are going to trade Casey, move Guillen to 1st and pick up A-Rod.

Casey is a below average 1st baseman, hitting-wise. His OPS with the Tigers
is .650, which is ultra low for that position. <Lumberjack44@webtv.net> wrote in message news:11457-4529E113-1149@storefull-3154.bay.webtv.net... Quote:

I would also love if the Tigers resign Casey. I know Chris Shelton has
been mention as their future 1st basemen. But he bats right and Casey bats left. Works out perfectly for Jim Leyland and his magic he does with the lineup. Plus, things may not work out like they want with Shelton. And know that Young is gone. Casey fits like a glove. And he has had some big clutch hits in the playoffs. Hope to see him in the spring. |

'in the playoffs'.....you mean for 4 games then, right? BFD. CLUTCH hitting? The guy was an unmitigated disaster. Resign him and you can forget the playoffs next year. Jesus, I'm assuming with a name like 'lumberjack' you never went to school for anything. It shows. SirC |

I beleive Casey is a free agent at the end of the season, and not theirs to trade. In any case, that idea sucks. Personally, I'd rather have injury prone Nomar than underachieving ARod. -- I never read email at the Yahoo address! Quote:

This lineup needs more than "some big clutch hits" if they intend to continue to compete, and first base is a position you expect to get A LOT of big clutch hits from, unless you want to use a roster spot for a full time DH, which I'm not at all in favor if, unless you can get a really good, Paul Molitor type hitter. -- I never read email at the Yahoo address! |

That would be the worst move in the history of the Tigers. Sorry to say but AROD on steroids is no longer here and his 35+ HR's and his career #'s just don't do nothing for me. I liked him when he was in Seattle as a youngster but will never like him again. I dont care where he goes his numbers & play making just don't do it for me. I'd rather sign Bonds for his bat and pay about 60% of what AROD got lucky with from Texas. You look at the guys who had steroid articles on them like Giambi, Bonds, Sosa, McGwire etc where they got hassled badly but AROD people left alone. I never have been able to figure that out. Anyways GO TIGERS! |
