What effect will the A-Rod rumors of NY trying to trade him have on the RS
trying to trade Manny? It would seem that the same teams (the ones with money) will be vying against each other. Both the Sox and Yanks will want quality pitching in return. Another twist in the off-season.... |

My first thought is that the Angels may prefer A-Rod over Manny while the Mets may be the opposite. I suppose it will all come down to how much or how little the Sox and Yankees expect in return. The other possibilities would seem to hinge on whether or not Philadelphia and/or the Dodgers are truly interested in upgrading their offenses and are willing to work to make a trade happen. Just my feeling. |

There simply aren't too many teams who could even consider either are there? The Angels, looking for a big bang would seem the most likely suitor for either. Sean McAdam said the other day that if the Sox really want to deal Manny, they need to make their move fast. I agree. If the Yanks really want to get rid of A-Rod, would they go so far as to try waiving him, like the Red Sox tried with Manny a few years ago? I hardly think they care about his feelings now. Would anyone bite if they did? Especially if the Sox move quickly to move Manny? Here's a scenario...the Sox trade Manny, for the sake of argument, to the Angels...removing any possibility of them going for A-Rod. The Yankees, now seeing no potential to trade A-Rod, (unlikely they would deal directly with the Red Sox or the Mets), instead put him on the waiver wire...Would you grab him off waivers? Obviously, money would factor strongly in all this. How much salary we would have had to eat or take back in whatever players were involved in the Manny deal...whether Texas would still pay the portion of A-Rods salary that they agreed to in the Yankee deal...but...that aside, should the Sox take a flyer on A-Rod? Personally, I could see the Yankees trading with the Red Sox or Mets before they'd do this, since one or the other would be likely to end up with him anyway...they'd have to figure that. |

The Dodgers have a pretty damn good SS now, so I can't see them being interested in A-Rod. I don't see them needing to spend on either so much. The Phillies didn't like Abreu's contract, I can't see them being players in any of this at all. The Angels have O-Cab. Through "08". I think there's a better chance for Manny there. They also have a good playmate for Manny in Vlad, I could see him lobbying for Manny too. Any other potential suitors? |

I, obviously, could be mistaken, but I believe that a player with a no-trade, such as Arod, cannot be put on waivers. Another team supposedly that might have interest in Arod is the White Sox. Maybe even Baltimore for either Arod or Manny, with Tejada going in return. |

I'm having this vision where the Sox trade Manny for a couple of
pitchers, then trade for Alfonso Soriano to hit behind Papi and play either LF or second base. Not sure if it's a dream or a nightmare.... Dan D Central NJ USA |

Either way, you'll wake up and it will be over! I hope they can something, but I doubt that will happen. |

Soriano is a FA. Why would they trade for him? |

Either way, they'd likely have to dump Manny's contract first. |

Yeah, and there is the rub - if they trade Manny then try to sign Soriano, he will have the Sox over a barrel. If they sign him first then try to trade Manny, then teams will know that we need to dump him and low-ball us. Tough call. But I thinking this 1-6 could be interesting: Crisp, Loretta, Papi, Soriano, Youkilis, Lowell.... Dan D Central NJ USA |
