Most people are assuming A-Rod will be available this offseason, but
what about Sheffield. So, would you want him back, say, in left field?
He's about to turn 38, sucked in the postseason as much as did A-rod,
sucked in two postseasons for the Braves, has been an asshole pretty
much everywhere except in Atlanta, and is frequently injured. So, do you
bring him back, and if so, for what price - bearing in mind his tendency
to think that money=respect?

What's his price tag, how much of that will NYY take and what do they
want in return?

For some reason I thought he had an option with NY that they might not
pick up. Could be mistaken, though.

Right you are. $13m option for 2007. Doubtful that even NYY would pick
that up.

As a free agent I definately go after him, at least to see what his
price tag is.

With the understanding that if you sign him cheap and he hits well
through May that he'll start talking about wanting more and not getting
any respect for his work...

Yeah. It's not like he's tanked seasons. If all he's going to do is
whine then hey, whine all you like, just shut up long enough to hit.
Of course, Kelly Johnson is back next year...

offer him a modest contract heavily laden with incentives. say 5
million that can balloon to 12 million if he turns into McCarver's view
of Derek jeter.
