Default Even Yet Another Classic Baseball Remerberance Story! Bill Veck as in Wreck!

By FAR the gratest GM/owner our Team ever had! Bill use to sit in the
bleachers with his shirt off off drinking beer with the fans in the
cheap seats! He also had an "Open" door policy. His door was NEVER
closed for any fan that wanted to talk to him! When he signed Satchel
Page he actually went down to the plate and caught him! Using a gum
wrapper for a plate! Old Satch passed the test! Everytime he pitched
about 20,000 extra negros payed to see him! Black folks didn't take to
Larry Doby as they did Page. Just for the record the Indians signed
MORE back players than any other team, period! Bill Veek had only,
actully NO money when he bought the Indians in '46! BUT he could TALK!
He got Bob Hope to buy in! By the way he signed Page because Doby
needed a roomate on the road, especially in St.Louis. Page was a NUT,
Doby was NOT happy to have Page in his Hotel room. Page, an old Negro
from the south use to keep a big pistol under his pillow justin case!
Doby didnt have NOTHING in common with Page! Let the NIT-PICKER Go HERE!
