Default velly interesting....

None of this is mine.
lifted whole cloth from http://www.redreporter.com/ I hope the formatting
makes it through.
JD is a pretty good read.

It didn't take long for dirt to start coming out on the 2006 season.
Lance McAlister has this about Narron and Rich Aurilia:

"Seems Jerry and Rich Aurilia went nose to nose with a week left in the
season, and things got "pretty ugly". Rich told those that saw it, he wasn't
coming back if Jerry was in charge in 2007"
Rheal Cormier also apparently wasn't happy with the way he was used:

"Rheal Cormier and Jerry had words in the final week of the season over
Rheal's role."
"The Reds told Rheal from the start that he would only throw in close
games when the game was on the line....but through most of the season, they
used him all over. Then, with two weeks left, Jerry went up to him and said,
sorry we have used you all over, the last two weeks, you will only throw
when the game is on the line. The very next day, they got him hot in the pen
with a 7 run lead or something. He went nuts on Jerry too."
I can't really blame him there. I'm sure some people will say this is much
ado about nothing, but if it's true I think it really signifies something.
The number one hallmark of bad management, in sports or otherwise, is poor
communication.

Combine all of this with this tidbit from a Mark Sheldon mailbag:

"With so many guys coming in during the season, a lack of clubhouse
leadership was exposed in my opinion. Some new additions felt hesitant to
speak up on clubhouse issues they found troubling, especially during the
late season slide."
The most important part of that statement is just the admission that there
were clubhouse issues at the end of the season, something I don't find
terribly surprising. It'd be tough not to have troubles with the
August/September that the Reds had.

Here's the question I have after reading all of this: if Jerry Narron isn't
good for the clubhouse then what good is he? He's a terrible in game
manager. You combine that with a veteran (and by all accounts a respected
vet) saying that he won't play for him again ... and I think you've got some
problems.

I don't know where Krivsky goes from here (if this is true I could see him
just ignoring it since Aurilia is likely to leave anyway), but I think he'd
do well to at least consider some alternatives.

Aha!! I told you guys that Narron said that there were starters
who basically refused or asked out of playing the final 2 days of the
season and that he was pissed about it. And it was backed up by the
on-air rant Marty had where he praised Dunn for always being available
to play while others weren't.

I never could find the info online to give you a link, but I kind of
guessed that it was Aurillia, and it was cemented after Encarnarcion
started the last day at 1B.

I don't really care about Cormier. He had a chance to come in when a
game mattered in Philly, and instead was the only pitcher who didn't.
Ended up screwing the lizard and putting Harang at risk at well. I
think Cormier actually helped Philly more after the trade than
before.

I would say adios Cormier, but the genius GM guaranteed his option for
next year to get him to waive his no trade. I believe he'll be 42
with a bad hip and apparently a bad attitude next year. Bad trade.

Does any of that really surprise anyone? The specifics might, but in
general if you misuse yoru pitching staff the way Narron did from start
to finish, guys are going to eventually take issue. I don't even know
what to make of Aurilia, since this is the second manager in a row that
he has been a dick to, apparently. Some guys are just dicks...and big
head Richie, I think, is probably one of them. Still, if I had to lose
Narron's contribution to the 2006 Reds or Aurilia's, I wouldn't
hesitate for a second...

The apparent promosie to Cprmeier, followed by going back on that
promise the very next day is Bob Boone all over again. If it happened
just that way, it is yet another very tangible example that narron is
in way over his head.

The weird part is, as much of a D!ck as he's been here, I don't know
why I'd remember, but for some reason, I seem to recall Richie taking
a full page heartfelt ad out in the SF paper when he left, thanking
the fans for all of the wonderful years, etc., and it seemed that the
article on him made him sound like a fan favorite and a genuinely nice
quiet introspective kind of guy.

Not quite the model we got.

Aurilia supposedly had asked out of the lineup at least once before the
last couple of days (I only know because I heard the announcers say so
on a TV game I weatched...they didn't make a big deal out of it). If
you are suggesting that this is what the fight between Narron and
Aurilia was about, I don['t think you can jump to that comlusion. It
actually reads more like Aurilia refused (if he in fact did) to play
*after* the fight with Narron ("Jerry and Rich Aurilia went nose to
nose with a week left in the season" would have been before the last
two games).

Nobody put pitchers more at risk than Jerry Narron. Some of us have
been bitching all year about using your supposed :best" pitchers in
blowout games. That is exactly what Narropn was doing in the situation
described.

Because theyre were still in it?

I'll admit that my theory isn't as strong because I just went and saw
that RA played the second to last game, but I don't know, it just
seems queer to me that on the final day of the season, I hear Narron
talking about how some of his guys didn't want to play the final games
after they were eliminated, with Marty backing up his assertion on
the broadcast later, and then looking out and seeing EE playing 1B
instead of RA.

Which BTW, is another of the things that pisses me off so much about
narron. By putting EE at 1B, he managed to screw with EE's head all
winter. His handling of EE is every bit as irritating as his
handling of the pitching staff. It's basically cost him a year of
development.

We all know Narron's shortfalls, and he isn't getting a pass, but
Cormier didn't earn the juice to complain about how he was handled.
Cormier complaining is like Maj or Mays complaining. He wasn't worth
a shit from the moment he got here, and during one of the most
important games of the year (the infamous Howard walk game), he was
the ONLY pitcher in the pen not to appear. Don't give me any crap
about his hip hurting, because I watched friggin' Mercker throw a
pitch 94 MPH AFTER he tore his elbow up and watched Guardardo throw on
guts for almost a month. Weathers threw hurt this year, Coffey just
plain threw too much, and toss in that the Lizard came and threw both
that night and the next day with a bum shoulder, and Cormier can STFU
and do what he's told to do.

I think Cormier was a waste of a trade who didn't give us anything,
which we stupidly extended and gave a raise to next season.

Your character is rarely defined by what you do when things are going

He definitely cost EE a year of development, but 1B is exactly where I thinkhe should be.

David Wright also had a boatload of errors his first year. My fear
is that we give up on him too soon.

His problem seems to be mechanical on throws rather than anything with
his hands, and his range is pretty impressive. And I think he made
pretty good progress in cutting them down significantly as the season
went by. You don't think he improved?

It seems a shame to waste his athleticism and range at 1B. I can find
1B a lot easier than a 23 year old 3B who can hit like he can.

Screw Richie! He did the same thing to Miley. If he isn't used exactly how
he wants to be, he throws a hissy fit. The truth is, he shouldn't have
gotten any of EE's playing time. He's never going to accept the role he's
most suited for, so he needs to hit the road.

As far as pitchers, there's probably more than one who is upset.
