Default worried about the Tigers

Yes, one should be concerned with the Cardinals series before anything
else.
But when you look at the Cards and all their veteran RHPs you have to
be optimistic about the Mets' chances. Many of the TV and radio
predictors are calling for the Mets in 5. We'd be happy with the Mets
in any number.

But if we look ahead I'd be very scared of the Tigers. Look at what
they'd present as an obstacle. LHSP like Robertson and Kenny Rogers
and a rookie righty Verlander.
We all know how much trouble the Mets have with lefties and esp'ly
ones that we haven't faced before. Plus the Mets have a sketchy track
record against rookie pitchers.
And the AL team gets the extra home game.

This is not to say the Mets could not beat the Tigers but I don't see
the Mets as the favorite in a matchup against them.

SP is definitely in Tigers' favor. Bullpen slightly favors us, although
that Zumaya kid scares me. Walker is good, Todd Jones is an adequate
closer. Offense favors the Mets, although with caveat: Tigers' 7-8-9
hitters all hit 25 or more HRs in regular season, and their lineup can also
play NL-like small ball. Defense is about even.

Tigers in 6 or Mets in 7, depending on which way the wind blows. Cautiously
optimistic is the phrase.

These are the same guys that predicted the Yankees in 11.
